Alumni Spotlight: Morgan Russo

Morgan Carr’s success has always been rooted in discipline, consistency, and a willingness to embrace challenges. These traits were instilled into her through competitive swimming. A sport that shaped not only her high school experience, but also her collegiate achievements and her professional career. Throughout high school Morgan Carr, now Morgan Russo, competed in competitive swimming. Morgan stated that she was drawn to the sport because, “it challenged me both physically and mentally and required a high level of discipline and consistency”. Swimming was demanding with the early morning, long hours of training, and an unwavering commitment to improvement. Morgan’s older brother, Nate Carr, was an inspiration to her. Nate Carr is a fellow CCHS alum and accomplished swimmer, whose example motivated her to pursue excellence in the pool. Over the years Morgan’s dedication to swimming paid off. One of Morgan’s most significant accomplishments when it came to swimming was when she qualified for and competed in the 2012 Olympic Trials. She traveled to Omaha, Nebraska and competed against the world’s top athletes. This experience “reinforced the importance of goal setting and trusting the process,” and instilled lessons into her that have stayed with her ever since. Swimming played a major role in Morgan’s life after graduation. Her success in high school led to her college recruitment and was a large influence on her decision to pursue both academics and athletics. She went on to swim at West Virginia University, where there was an even higher level of competition. While swimming at WVU, Morgan medaled at the Big 12 Championships and went on to be honored at the Big 12 Newcomer in 2017. Over the years swimming was a large part of Morgan’s life but she also “enjoyed writing, reading, problem solving, and helping others”. These interests combined with the skills she developed from athletics guided her towards her career in law. Today, Morgan is a labor and employment litigation attorney at Jackson Lewis P.C. in Tampa, Florida. She represents businesses and business owners in legal disputes with employees. After graduating from WVU, Morgan attended law school in Miami, Florida. While in Florida she met her husband, Dominic Russo. He was a collegiate swimmer at the University of Tampa. Furthermore, interlacing swimming into her life. Morgan states that, “My journey has required years of education and hard work, and the discipline and perseverance I developed through swimming played a meaningful role in my professional accomplishments”.
