Charleston Catholic High School

Alumni Spotlight: Jack Cimino

Charleston Catholic has produced some amazing athletes. One that has caught my eye is a graduate of the class of 2019. He’s not your average athlete though. He was a stud all the way from the fairway to the field with a stop on the tennis courts in between. Jack was a 3 sport athlete and a key player in all 3.  Jack brought leadership to each team he was on. Jack brought energy to the midfield in soccer.  He never ended up winning a ring in soccer although he deserved it. Jack was named player of the year in 2018 along with being first team all state. Coach Niall Paul said “he was responsible for 50% of the goals our team made.” He contributed to the 2018 CCHS men's soccer team being ranked #2 in the state and #131 nationally. My father (Bryan Brown) got the privilege of helping coaching Jack. He said “Jack always wanted to play. He had a drive to be the best he could every time he could.” Jack’s dedication to be the best he could did not stop at soccer. Jack played on the golf team. Jack held the school record for the lowest score his senior year shooting a 69 to send the golf team to States. Jack described breaking the school record and sending the team to states as “electric” and an “adrenaline rush I had never felt before.” You can often still find Jack on the links. Jack described his perfect day as “getting up early with his friends and going to a good golf course to play 18 holes.” Jack was a beast on the tennis courts if soccer and golf wasn't enough. He won a state championship his senior year (2019). He said “Winning that state championship was a great feeling, I wanted to leave the school with one more state championship.” Today Jack is found in Morgantown, West Virginia. He is in his last year of Law school. When asked what his plans were after Law school, his response was “I plan to stay in the state of West Virginia and practice law. I take a lot of pride in being from West Virginia and I want to give back and help the great people of West Virginia.”  Now-a-days you don't find many athletes with that Jack Cimino determination and drive to be the best. Charleston Catholic is more then just a school, its a community. This community is raising young students to have that kind of dedication with their work and sports. Written by: Barrett Brown
